Good news for holiday job seekers…international employment firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas, released a new report which says employers are hiring more holiday workers for jobs this year. Hiring will still be less than the pre-recession levels, but the news is still better than last season’s dismal data.
Although the big name companies like Toys R Us and Macy’s announced plans to hire thousands of workers and UPS will gain 50,000, the employment firm suggests looking at smaller ‘mom and pop’ shops for the best chances of getting hired.
MISS employment tips:
Update your LinkedIn account and ‘link-in’ with anyone you can think of.
Hire a copyeditor/grammar-maven/English teacher (find one through word of mouth or Craigslist) to read over your resume and basic cover letter for glaring typos.
Buy a power suit (dress for success) — and if you can’t afford one at retail prices consider hitting up a local consignment shop.
Show up to the interview with a professional appearance — and don’t forget the hair and nails. There’s nothing worse than a chipped manicure to get the wrong attention in an interview.
