Sure, bellying up to the bar when you’re preggo can be a bit socially awkward but a new study from the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health found light drinking during pregnancy might actually improve your child’s test scores!
In the study, the children of women who drank about one to two drinks a week while pregnant didn’t do any worse on their cognitive tests at age five than the kids of moms who drank nothing at all.
In fact, the kids of the pregnant light drinkers actually did BETTER on the tests, which featured vocabulary, picture similarity questions and pattern construction.
However—the moms who drank more than one to two drinks per week had kids who scored significantly lower on the test.
According to an article in the New York Times on the subject, “Doctors have long said that a little is not a problem — the problem is defining ‘a little.'”
