Not Quite the Freshman 15

November 16, 2010

New research is showing a link between roommates and weight gain.

In a study of freshman college women roommates, those who lived with a slim roommate packed on two-and-a-half pounds during the year, while those who roomed with an obese roommate only added half-a-pound.

The University of Michigan study researchers say the findings seem, “counterintuitive” but the reasons may be due to findings that heavier roommates are more inclined that the average-weight gal to diet, take weight loss supplements and exercise. “It’s not really the weight of your roommate that’s important, but the behaviors your roommate engages in,” say researchers.
